Local Initiatives for Biodiversity, Research, and Development (LI-BIRD) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established in October 1995 with its Head Office in Pokhara and Programme Coordination Office in Lalitpur. ‘Strengthening Capacity of Smallholder Farmers for Resilient Livelihood (SAKSHAM)’, project is being implemented by LI-BIRD in Kanchanpur and Doti districts with funding support from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland through FELM Nepal. The project aims to improve and diversify the food and nutrition security by creating income opportunities in target communities while improving climate change adaptation and disaster risk management capacities of local governments, institutions and communities in these districts.

‘Green Karnali: Climate and Gender Responsive Resilient Agriculture and Enterprises in Karnali River Basin’ is being implemented by LI-BIRD with funding support of DANIDA through DanChurchAid (DCA) Nepal in Surkhet, Dailekh and Accham districts. The project aims to build resilient livelihoods of smallholder farmers, especially women and youths, through the promotion of climate and gender-friendly agroecology based farming approaches and green enterprises.

LI-BIRD invites applications from eligible and qualified Nepali citizens who are committed and have the ability to deliver results with the highest integrity for the following positions:

1.  Team Leader (Level 9) – 1 (For SAKSHAM project based at Kailali district)

Job Summary: Reporting to the Deputy Programme Operations Director, TL will be responsible for the overall management of the project by providing the leadership role in planning, execution, monitoring, coordination, documentation and reporting. TL’s key duties include: efficient management of the project resources including staff and budget; building relationships with donors; coordinating with the local and provincial governments for leveraging resources and building synergies in programme implementation; and providing technical guidance to the project team to achieve project outcomes.

Education and Experience: Master’s Degree or equivalent from recognized university in the fields of Agriculture, Natural Resource Management or related field, with five years of work experience.

2.  Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Manager (Level 9) -1 (Based at Programme Coordination Office, Lalitpur)

Job Summary: Reporting to the Programme Operations Director, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Manager will be responsible for the overall M&E functions of the organization. MEAL Manager’s key duties include: development and implementation of the overall MEAL framework of the organization aligning with strategic programme; support project teams to development and execution of project specific MEAL framework and plan; coordinate baseline, mid-term and endline surveys; organize periodic review and reflection meetings; management of project M&E database; capacity building of project staff on M&E and support the project team in documenting results and learnings and their effective dissemination.

Education and Experience: Master’s Degree or equivalent from the recognized university in the fields of Agricultural Economics, Statistics, Information Management or other relevant subjects with five years of work experience in monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL), data and knowledge management.

3.  Programme Officer (Level 7) -2 (For SAKSHAM project, one each based at Doti and Kanchanpur district)

Job Summary: Reporting to Team Leader, the Programme Officer (PO) will be responsible for the overall coordination of field level activities of the project in the respective district. PO’s key duties include: contribution in project planning, implementation and coordination; supervising field level staff; monitoring of the field level interventions; data management, synthesis and report writing; communication, linkages and networking with key stakeholders for building programme synergies, resource leveraging and scaling up of potential innovations.

Education and Experience: Master’s Degree in Agricultural Sciences or other relevant subjects with two years of experience in farm based livelihoods and enterprise related projects. Candidates with valid motorbike/scooter license and field level work experience in the implementation and reporting of projects are encouraged to apply.

4.  Technical Assistant (TA) (Level 4) -3 (For SAKSHAM project, one each based at Laljhadi Rural Municipality, Kanchanpur; Krishnapur Municipality, Kanchanpur; and Jorayal Rural Municipality, Doti)

Job Summary: Reporting to Programme Officer, Technical Assistant (TA) will be primarily responsible for implementing day to day field level activities for the Strengthening capacity of smallholder farmers for resilient livelihood project. TA needs to work closely with individual farmers, groups, cooperatives, youth, People With Disability (PWD), local resource person, social mobilizer, local government and market actors to plan, implement and coordinate the project activities at the community level.

Education and Experience: Intermediate or JT/JTA degree in Agriculture (Plant Science). Candidates with valid motorbike/scooter license and three years of work experience in a rural setting are encouraged to apply.

5.  Advocacy and Documentation Officer (ADO) (level-8) -1 (for Green Karnali project based at Birendranagar, Surkhet)

Job Summary: Reporting to the Team Leader, Advocacy and Documentation Officer (ADO) will be responsible for the coordination with Civil Society Organizations (CSO’s), local and provincial governments to implement the project activities. ADO’S key duties include: taking lead in capacity building, documentation, advocacy, producing a range of knowledge products and communication materials targeted to diverse audiences, and networking with stakeholders. S/he will be responsible for overseeing the project overall M&E and coordinating for the capacity building activities targeted to CSOs and local and provincial governments.

Education and Experience: Master’s Degree in Agricultural Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science or related field with three years of relevant work experience of implementing climate resilient agriculture and livelihood projects in coordination with local and provincial governments with strong components of capacity building, lobbying and engagement in local level policy making and planning processes.

6.  Admin and Finance Assistant (AFA) (level-4) -1 (for SAKSHAM project based at Kailali)

Job Summary: Reporting to the Team Leader, the Admin & Finance Assistant (AFA) will be primarily responsible for account keeping of the project. S/he will also support the project team on administration, procurement and logistics management. S/he will coordinate with relevant staff to ensure accounting and documentation of all financial transactions are carried out accurately and in a timely manner.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in commerce/management, with two years of relevant work experience. Residents of Kanchanpur district are preferred and are encouraged to apply.
