Designation: Social Worker

Project Summary

While there are a number of After Care Services providing a safe haven and a variety of resources for many survivors of abuse, trafficking, and potential exploitative situations in Nepal, Mukti After Care Project exists to meet a more specific need of the survivors. In partnership with rescue agencies and the Nepal government, the project provides individualized holistic care plans for reintegration including trauma counseling, remedial education, job training, legal aid, and medical care. We take survivors with complicated legal cases, safety concerns, and needs for in-depth trauma care who might otherwise not find suitable placement.

General Description 

The social worker will work with rescued victims of sexual exploitation to facilitate and coordinate their healing process. They will work together with the counselors, lawyers, security guards, teachers, caregivers and directors to coordinate and specialize each girl’s care within our home according to their unique needs.


  • Accompany girls for all medical appointments, police meetings, and court appearances.
  • Liaison with the National Child Rights Council and Social Welfare Committee with regard to the status of the girls in our care when necessary.
  • Travel across Nepal for home safety studies, tracing rescued minors, and for home visits with survivors in your caseload.
  • Accompany the rescue teams and police on raids, provide crisis counseling to survivors during the rescue, assist and advocate for survivors throughout the rescue process.
  • Develop, update and coordinate with all members of each survivor’s care plan to ensure that the holistic needs of the survivor are met and that she is continuing to make progress towards reintegration.
  • Testify in court concerning a rescued victim and her status if required.
  • Establish and maintain regular contact with NGOs in and around Kathmandu, Nepal to provide opportunities for job skills training, job placement, and reintegration.
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of records, files and casework materials.
  • Assist the counselor in treatment goals such as practicing coping skills and providing psycho-education as well as providing life and job skills group training.
  • Coordinate crisis care for each survivor’s family and make referrals to other organizations that can provide support to the survivor’s family
  • Participate in weekly supervision, team care planning meetings, and training sessions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information.

Required Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work with at least 2 year experiences of working with clients affected by including neglect, child abuse, domestic violence, mental health, trafficking, and parental substance abuse preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and Nepali required. Ability to speak and write Hindi or Tamang is preferred.
  • Care and interactions founded in the trauma-informed principles; safety, trustworthiness and transparency, peer support, collaboration, empowerment, voice and choice, awareness of cultural and gender-based issues.
  • Working knowledge of Google platforms such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Gmail preferred.
  • Experience coordinating care plans and case management systems preferred
