Job Description

The Government of Nepal has adopted important normative frameworks for women’s human rights. including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals. and UN Security Council Resolutions 1325 and 1820. These commitments are enshrined in the Constitution of Nepal and efforts are being taken to ensure that all laws and policies conform with the constitutional provisions on gender equality.

UN Women Nepal’s Strategic Note (SN) for the period 2018-2022 lays out the agency’s unique role and comparative advantage in supporting national stakeholders in advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women in line with internationally agreed normative standards. The SN is aligned with and contributes to Nepal’s national priorities and its gender equality commitments. the needs of women’s organizations, and the UNDAF 2018-2022 with a commitment of leaving no one behind. UN Women will advance its efforts in Nepal following its unique role and triple mandate (normative. operational and coordination) and lessons learned to `achieve gender equality and social inclusion and empower women and girls in Nepal to realize their human rights (Nepal Country Office SN Goal Statement). In Nepal. UN Women focuses on strengthening women’s voice. agency and leadership across sectors to advance women’s rights, provide space for women’s meaningful participation, and contribute to tangible differences in their lives. Under the overarching SN 2018-2022. UN Women focuses on two programmatic areas. inclusive governance. and women’s economic empowerment. Under its inclusive governance. UN women also prioritized work related to gender-responsive humanitarian action, disaster risk reduction and climate change action.

UN Women promotes gender-responsive humanitarian action at times of disaster and humanitarian crisis through its technical. financial support, policy and coordination support. provision of gender expertise, strengthened capacity of women’s group and networks for effective advocacy and implementation. It also supports in strengthening gender responsive DRR.

Task description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Programme Specialist (Women. Peace Security. and Humanitarian Progracrune) or his/her designated mandated representative(s). the UNV Programme Officer will:

  1. Assist in partnership develop and resource mobilization:
  • Support in drafting and finalizing partnership contracts

1.Support implementation of programmes/interventions on ORR-HA

  • Assist with documentation and record-keeping of project documents.
  • Participation in partner meetings and stakeholder consultations
  • Support in drafting of project proposals. TORs. and documents
  • Provide support to monitoring. and reporting. This includes preparation of reports. briefing notes. background papers. summaries. correspondence. and talking points: preparation and finalization of knowledge resources. collection and analysis of data. and providing inputs to Quarterly reporting.
  • Support in developing different tools
  • Analyze and document !earnings
  • Support field coordination for anticipatory action and humanitarian response

2.Support in advocacy and knowledge building and communication work

  1. Ensure documentation of project reports, deliverables and evidences.
  2. Support in developing tools. checklist. guidance and communication products
  3. Support review. finalization and dissemination of knowledge products/advocacy material developed by partners in line with UN Women guidelines
  4. Contribute to the exchange of information and knowledge products internally and externally of the programme
  5. Support to organize major advocacy campaigns, events, training, workshops.
  6. Support to organize consultation meetings and virtual platforms.
  7. Provide media advocacy support in close collaboration with UN Women’s Communications’ Officer
  8. Conduct background research (or preparing thematic briefs. speaking points. periodic progress reports. meetings, events reports. etc.
  9. Develop in preparing case studies and human-interest stories

3.Support in Office wide coordination and progarnune Implementation

  • Provide coordination support to programme focal person for the implementation of different project and programmes of UN Women
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualification & Experience

Required experience

3 years of experience in supporting organization in responding to humanitarian action

Relevant work experience with a demonstrable ability to provide programmatic support in the areas of gender and Humanitarian action.

Work experiences with the National NG0s. INGOs. or Development Partners is an asset.
