Job Description

ALIVE is a 5-year project aiming to develop, and test the feasibility, acceptability and appropriateness of intervention modules (economic/anti-poverty intervention modules and self-regulation intervention modules) for preventing common mental health problems such as depression and anxiety among adolescents aged 10-19 years living in poverty affected urban settings such as squatter settlements in Nepal. The economic/anti-poverty interventions would be focused on reducing multi-dimensional poverty of the family and could include programmes such as intervention for school retention, or intervention for bringing back school drop-outs, or nutrition intervention, or cash transfer, or cash transfer plus saving skill training, or cash transfer plus other skill-based training, etc. The modules of the interventions should be developed based on evidence and thereafter be implemented in the selected settings, followed by evaluation.

TPO Nepal seeks competent, committed and result oriented candidates for the following position:

Position: Program Officer (Livelihood)

Job station: Kathmandu

Job duration: 2 years with possibilities of extension of 1 year

Major responsibilities:

     The Program Officer will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:

• Taking a lead in the development and implementation of economic/anti-poverty intervention modules to reduce family poverty among people living in slum areas of Kathmandu valley
• Conduct a thorough situation analysis and review of available anti-poverty programs (cash transfer only, or cash transfer plus other livelihood-related trainings, or other economic interventions) that have been effective in Nepal and other settings.
• Conduct interviews and workshops among relevant stakeholders to get their input for the development and implementation of economic/anti-poverty intervention.
• Develop manuals and other materials for implementation of economic/anti-poverty intervention.
• Conduct training and regular supervision of facilitators for implementation of economic/anti-poverty intervention in the selected squatter settlements.
• Involve in the development of instruments to evaluate the impact of economic/anti-poverty intervention
• Involve in data analysis and publication
• Perform other tasks required for the implementation of the project

Required Qualification & Experience

• Master’s degree in Development Studies, Economy, Health Economics, Business Administration, or another related field;
• Minimum 5 years of experience in development and implementation of economic or anti-poverty intervention to reduce family poverty.
• Experience in development of manuals and implementation plans strategies of economic or anti-poverty intervention.
• Experience in training and supervision of facilitators to implement economic or anti-poverty intervention.
• Experience in relevant livelihoods market assessment, value chain analysis, and wealth ranking, and M&E;
• Experience and proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team with people of different backgrounds and nations;
• High level of interpersonal and communication skills and experience with various stakeholders and actors at various levels;
• Good command of both written and spoken Nepali and English languages;
• Experience of working with people living in squatter settlements in the field of livelihood would be added advantage.
