UMNMDT Okhaldhunga Community Hospital in Province 1 Nepal, has a position for a qualified MDGP Consultant. Minimum requirement for this position is a medical post-graduate degree in General Practice (MDGP) from a recognised university with Nepal Medical Council registration.
Okhaldhunga Community Hospital (OCH) is a busy rural hospital to the east of Kathmandu that provides primary hospital services to Okhaldhunga District and the surrounding five districts. Medical officers work across the medical disciplines – particularly in paediatrics, obstetrics, orthopaedics, general surgery and adult internal medicine. Average number of outpatients per day is 135, but in the busier months can be up to 200. The Emergency Room is staffed 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The MDGP Consultant post is a senior medical post within the hospital with leadership and teaching responsibilities for the junior medical staff.
his position provides the opportunity for appropriately qualified MDGP consultants to practice all their skills and experience from their training. Prior to COVID-19, the hospital was approaching 1500 deliveries per year. The full range of deliveries – normal, vaginal breech, vacuum, forceps and caesarean section are performed. The range of surgical procedures includes – surgery of early pregnancy failure, appendicectomy, hernia repairs, perforated peptic ulcer, ano-rectal conditions, simple gynaecology, surgical management of sepsis, management of fractures – non-operative and operative (the latter including closed and open reductions with internal fixation). The OT is equipped with a C-arm to allow real time fluoroscopy for such work. The hospital has an endoscope for upper GIT endoscopy.
