Knowledge Management Specialist

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Knowledge Management Specialist for an anticipated five-year monitoring, evaluation and learning contract with USAID Nepal. The position will be based in Kathmandu, Nepal. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in 1) developing and maintaining a knowledge management system for learning and adapting development programs, 2) compiling lessons learned from development programs, 3) leading capacity building activities and learning events, and 4) communicating results of development programs via different mediums.

Position description

The Knowledge Management Specialist will be part of the team providing MEL support to USAID’s Nepal Mission and its Implementing Partners across USAID’s Program Cycle and the portfolio of investment in Nepal. The Knowledge Management Specialist will support the Chief of Party (COP) and USAID Mission via effective knowledge management skills in order to harness, organize, and disseminate the knowledge gained from monitoring, evaluation and learning to support evidence-informed decision-making for project activities and the portfolio.

Duties and responsibilities

• Responsible for the development and maintenance of a knowledge management system for leaning dissemination and uptake.
• Responsible for supporting and promoting the identification and curation of technical content in collaboration with USAID and the MEL team.
• Development of a learning agenda in accordance with learning needs from USAID Nepal and Implementing Partners.
• Support and oversight of the learning processes across the USAID Nepal Mission, implementing partners and other stakeholders ensuring that the knowledge generated is utilized.
• Organization and management of capacity building workshops and learning events and activities.
• Development of communications to disseminate program results and lessons learned to key stakeholders and external audiences.
• Promotion of collaborating, learning, and adapting approaches across all activities.
• Representation of the company with USAID technical officers and implementing partners.
• Assistance with trouble shooting and problem-solving when the need arises, including delivering services to the client when required.

Required Qualification & Experience

• A minimum of a Master’s qualification in a relevant field (e.g. social science, international development, development communications, organizational learning etc.).

• Minimum of eight years of demonstrated experience in strategic planning; monitoring and evaluation; project design; facilitation of learning; and knowledge management, including experience in applying learning to improve international development programs

• Substantial experience with compiling lessons learned including analytical studies and evaluations from development programs, preferably at sector and country level.
• Substantial experience with communication of results from development programs at sector and country level, e.g. for social and public media.

• Familiarity with USAID’s operations and programs. Ideally, experience supporting USAID missions on similar projects.
• Technical expertise in one or more thematic sectors (such as health, democracy and governance, education, civil society strengthening, environment etc.) a strong plus.
• Strong quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills blended with expert writing and oral communication skills.
• Oral and written fluency in English and Nepali required
• Conference presentation and/or publication record preferred
• Preference for a Nepali national
