Job Description

Family Planning (FP) Advisor:

The Family Planning (FP) Advisor will primarily lead all FP related activities for Suaahara II program on behalf of FHI 360. The person will ensure timely communication and arrangements with technical experts as required and ensure all FP-related activities are carried out maintaining a high technical quality. The Advisor will also liaise with other consortium partners including the Helen Keller International (Prime) in a timely and appropriate manner and maintain open and timely communication with other stakeholders to ensure proper alignment of FHI 360’s activities with the overall Suaahara II activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead overall activities related to FP and Healthy Timing and Spacing of Pregnancy (HTSP) in Suaahara II.
  • Work jointly with the Family Welfare Division (FWD), Ministry of Health and Population and other consortium organizations to integrate FP/HTSP services into the project’s nutrition components to improve a range of maternal, infant, and young child outcomes.
  • Represent FHI 360/Suaahara II in the national level forums such as FP Sub-Committee meetings, other national level coordination meetings on FP and reproductive health including the bi-monthly USAID’s FP partners meeting.

Be aware on the national and international policies and strategies, guidelines on FP/HTSP and lead the project envisaged FP activities.

Provide technical support in the development and revision of guidelines, training curriculum and standard operating procedures to facilitate FP/HTSP services delivery and referrals under Suaahara II program

Provide technical guidance to carry out any assessments related to integrated interventions including FP/HTSP and help to develop suitable job aids and social and behavior change communication materials.

Design and support the implementation of bold FP initiatives including innovating ways of delivery FP/HTSP programming as envisaged by the project.

  • Provide technical support to the FWD to develop/revise program related policies/ strategies & guidelines, program review meetings and key events celebration such as National Family Planning Day.
  • Develop innovative strategies and integrated approaches in successfully implementing the FP/HTSP interventions within the framework of Suaahara II integrated nutrition strategies.
  • Provide technical assistance in implementing QA approaches across GoN’s health facilities to measure, monitor and improve the quality of FP services.
  • Ensure implementation of FP Compliance Plan for Suaahara II program to ensure the USAID’s statutory and policy requirements are met across the project intervention areas and facilitate training/orientation to the program staff on US abortion and FP requirement as needed.
  • Oversee the mechanisms to monitor program compliance with US abortion and FP requirements in Suaahara II program districts.
  • Provide regular updates on cutting edge practices on FP/HTSP services to the project as well as to GoN and other stakeholders.
  • Lead to extend collaboration at federal and provincial levels with other USAID-funded projects overlapping with Suaahara II program districts.
  • Provide technical support for documentation of the best practices and lessons learned from integrated interventions/approachese. integration of FP/HTSP services in nutrition programming.
  • Establish good relationships with key national counterparts and stakeholders working in FP program.
  • Guide improvement of the program performance by continuously monitoring and analyzing the service statistics.
  • Contribute to the preparation of program reports, monthly updates, technical brief and other necessary documents in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor and Country Representative

Required Qualification & Experience

  • Master’s degree in public health or social sciences.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of technical and managerial experience in the health sector in Nepal.
  • Strong technical knowledge on FP//sexual and reproductive health (SRH) service delivery with experience in designing and implementing the social and behavioral change communication interventions.
  • Experience in managing/working with international agencies, USAID funded program or with UN organizations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multi-tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in teams and create collaborative team building environment.
  • Excellent oral and written English including documentation skills are required.
  • Strong negotiation, coordination, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact with technical experts at the national and international level.
