Job Description

Position Title: Assistant Accountant

Reference No: N20169

Number of Positions: One

Duty station: Kathmandu


Responsible to assist on all the accounting transactions with supporting and required documents and uploading on the Quick Book Online for the compliance with CIMMYT Financial Policy. Assist to accountant on all accounting review and process all the transaction as necessary.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist to prepare vouchers and review all supporting documents before payments are processed.
  • Assist on statutory compliances -Tax Deduction at Source, Provident Fund and others.
  • Assist to CIMMYT Accountant in Kathmandu during month-end and year-end closing of the books.
  • Assist to review and verify expenditures to ensure all the supporting documents are adequately included on the vouchers/transaction..
  •  Assist accountant in reviewing travel claim, bills, vouchers, documents for payment process and settlement.
  • Prepare and maintain check logs for incoming and outgoing payments.
  • Prepare VAT refund claim in coordination with accountant and submit to tax office on regular basis.
  • Assist to ensure each payment has the relevant supporting document/s, payment documents are prepared accurately, and processed in timely manner.
  • Assist to maintain good filing system of documentation and audit purpose.
  • Scanning of all vouchers and supporting documents and upload on the QBO for each transaction.
  • Deposit all the TDS and other taxes within deadline and get submission verified.
  • Any other task assigned by Country Finance & Admin Manager.

Required Qualification & Experience

A.  Education & Knowledge Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/ Accounting.
  • Good knowledge of accounting process with required documents for organizational local compliance.
  • Knowledge of Accounting, Financial Management and local taxes & regulations.

B.  Work Experience and Skill Required:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant work experience and conceptual knowledge of theories, practices and procedures within a discipline.
  • Working experience of Quick books Online accounting software.
  • Ability to communicate and relate effectively, internally and externally is important.
  • Purpose is to share information, and secure the cooperation and commitment of individuals.

C.  Level of English Language Required:

  • High level of fluency/competency in written and spoken English.
  • Good knowledge of the local language to communicate with different levels of staff.
  • Ability to interact confidently with colleagues and external contacts on issues and to write documents or presentations in English.

D.  Information Technology Skills Needed:

  • Sufficient competency to use the standard Windows-based software for word-processing, spread sheets, presentations, and email used at CIMMYT with occasional assistance.
  • Ability to effectively use corporate systems and other specialized applications (user).
